The Gilroy High field hockey team pushed its record to 8-0 and won the Leigh Longhorn Roundup last weekend.

The Mustangs, who open Mount Hamilton Division action today at home at 3:30 p.m. against Presentation, went 3-0 in pool play with victories against Branham (6-0), Leigh (3-0) and Chico (3-0.) Those wins earned GHS a bye into the finals where they took on Monta Vista, winning 4-0.

Monica Marrazzo and Alex Kachakji were named to the All-Tournament Team, though head coach Adam Gemar said any of his players could’ve earned that distinction.

“I am really proud our all the girls for their hard work and having a great tournament,” Gemar said.

Two of the games were played on natural grass, different from the Mustangs home turf, which allowed the players to fine tune the little things in their game, Gemar said.

The Mustangs also host Los Gatos in a big early season league game Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
