FREMONT - The Silicon Valley Mustangs 13-and-under baseball team - made up of players from Gilroy, Morgan Hill and Hollister - won two more tournaments over the last three weeks. The titles mark the third and fourth tournament wins for the club this spring.

On June 6-7, the Mustangs won the USSSA Discount Weekend tournament held at Fremont Sports Complex. Competing against nine other teams, Silicon Valley won all five of its games while outscoring opponents 38-15. The team defeated the ASA Trojans by a score of 9-1 in the championship game.

Last weekend, the Mustangs won the USSSA 8th Annual Father's Day Classic, also held at the Fremont Sports complex, by defeating the East County Maniacs 9-3 for the title. Outscoring opponents 47-10 in five games, two of which were stopped early due to the mercy rule, the Mustangs proved to be exceptionally talented top to bottom as Silicon Valley featured just nine players on its roster.

"It is very tough to win with only nine players, but with aggressive hitting and great base running we were able to come out on top," Mustangs Manager Steve Ransom said. "Since we were short three players, the players had to play every inning of every game and some had to play out of their regular positions. We also only used four pitchers in the five games we won.

"Everyone really stepped up and played hard throughout the weekend. I am extremely proud of how the entire team has been playing this season."

The Mustangs currently boast an overall record of 33-6.
