Caller: "I bought a Mustangs season pass for '08 Gilroy High School and on one side is the varsity football and on the other is JV, freshman football. And I was told this was a season pass, like it says, 'Mustangs season pass.' Well, guess what. I went to the Hollister [scrimmage] on [August 29] and they said, 'Nope, we don't honor that. Only at Mustangs' stadium do they honor the season pass.'
So, I was asking some of my friends and they go, 'No, we were all duped. Its not a season pass.' It's just you get coupons. You buy one large topping ... er, uh ... anyways, I've been sold the wooden nickel!"
Green Phone:
Dear Wooden nickel collector,
We spoke with GHS Athletic Director Jack Daley and he explained the situation. The school planned on selling $20 coupon booklets to help raise money for the football program and there was a mistake at the printer.
"Unfortunately, the company put "season pass" on the front of it," Daley said. "We told the kids (selling the booklets), on more than one occasion, it was not for admission, just the discounts.
"It doesn't get you admission to anything. I didn't see it until it was delivered. We probably should have done a better job looking at it."
Saying that, Daley wanted to make sure no one holds a grudge with Gilroy High sports. He is offering money back to anyone who has a complaint about being misled.
"If he wants his 20 dollars back, I'll be happy to give him his 20 dollars back," Daley said. To contact the school call (408) 847-2424.
The AD added that the discounts in the booklet far surpass $20 and go to a good cause, such as helping to fund the football teams' bus rides to and from games, referee salaries (not that they always earn it) and refurbishing equipment.
