The Ralph's Cherry Hut Angels capped their 2008 Little League season with a 7-1 victory over the Scotts Valley Padres in Sunday's District 39 Boys Minor Tournament of Champions title game at the Gilroy Sports Complex.

The Angels compiled a 19-2-1 record during the regular season and playoffs for the Gilroy Little League, including an 11-3 win in the Minors World Series game prior to the TOC.

The Angels went 5-1 at the TOC by beating Watsonville American (12-0), Watsonville National (7-6), San Juan/Aromas (10-2) and Scotts Valley twice (2-1 and 7-1). The team's only loss was a 2-1 defeat to Scotts Valley in the first championship game on Saturday.

"We started practice on February 2nd so we ended up being a pretty close-knit group after playing together for so long," manager Bob Santos said. "I am really happy for these kids because they have worked really hard. Their parents have also been committed and supportive, which is also really important if you are going to have success like this."

Alec Cordova threw 4.1 innings for the Angels Saturday, allowing no earned runs on one hit. He struck out 11. Darren Santos pitched the remainder of the game without giving up a hit.

The game was called after five complete innings with the Angels leading by more than five runs (no team can score more than five runs per inning).

The Angels scored five runs in the fifth inning on two hits, and capitalized on two Scotts Valley errors and three walks. With the Angels holding a narrow 2-1 lead, Steven Chavez hit a bases-loaded triple that scored three.

Darius Alexander-Jones reached on an error later in the inning that scored two more runs for the Angels.
