Improved times across the board and 13 points in the Central Coast Section Swimming Championships held at Avery Aquatics Center at Stanford University last weekend was more than enough to satisfy Gilroy High swimming coach Tom Clark.

"I was very, very impressed with all of their swims," Clark said.

"We just wanted to score a point in CCS again and have all the kids improve times, and that was almost [accomplished] 100 percent. I couldn't be more proud of them."

All five relay teams, three boys and two girls, improved their times, and David Pribyl and Eddie Malick finished 10th and 11th, respectively, in the 100 breast stroke finals on Saturday. Trials were held on Friday.

Overall, Gilroy finished in 29th place, first among all Tri-County Athletic League schools at the prestigious sectional tournament, which featured several Olympic-caliber swimmers despite still being a high school event.

"That's exactly why we outscored [other TCAL schools] at CCS," Clark said. "We just don't have the depth for TCALs even though we won [half] the events."

Other top finishers for Gilroy included Eddie Malick, who took 21st in the 200 IM, Daniel Shields, who took 35th in the 50 free, and Meagan Collett, who dropped a second off her best 100 backstroke mark and placed 24th overall.
