Wilson dominates Angels, Giants just get by Red Sox
May 16, 2008
 By Dispatch Sports Staff

SATURDAY, MAY 12

A's 8, Angels 1

The A's of Gilroy Little League's Boys Major division defeated the Angels 8-1 Saturday, led by pitcher Brennan Wilson with two doubles and a single. Brian Delgado, Nate Silva, Kevin Costa, Nathan Bonsell, and Anthony Salazar all had a hit as well.

Wilson was also stellar on the mound, tossing 13 strikeouts.

The Angels' offense was led by both Kyle Doughty with two hits and Samuel Aptekar with a double. Samuel Aptekar, Ralphy Retiz, Kyle Doughty, Alex Herrera and Jordan Fernandez combined for 11 strikeouts.

Rockies 4, D'Backs 3

Ronnie Reed hit a home run and Jalynd Gallardo had a double to help power the Rockies past the D'Backs for a 4-3 win. Dillon Day and Daniel Cortez also recorded hits.

Defensively, the Rockies received six strikeouts from pitcher Alexander Vega. Reed came in to close out the game, tallying three strikeouts.

The D'Backs came close through two hits by Josh Wheat, as well as hits by Adam Gonzalez, Gordy Papalias, and Alex Garcia.

Marcus Delgado and Wheat combined for nine strikeouts in the game for the D'Backs.

Giants 2, Red Sox 1

The Giants topped the Sox 2-1 with Willie Fritter hitting an RBI single and a triple. Miles Gundy recorded a triple followed by singles from Brendan Reimer and Miles Gundy. The Giants' defense won with teamwork, as pitchers Brendan Reimer and Andre Arroyo combined for 11 strikeouts.

Ian Benjamin led the Red Sox offense with an RBI double, and Anthony Bonino recorded a double while Aaron Whitehouse and Dean Manning each had a hit.

Aaron Whitehouse had eight strikeouts for the Red Sox defense.

Marlins 7, Rangers 6

The Marlins just edged the Rangers for a 7-6 win, and were powered by a single and double by Jonathan Holiday. Tommy Cox, Edward Garcia, and Bobby Barbosa each recorded two hits while Armando Gutierrez and Daniel Ordaz had a hit each.

The Marlins' pitching duo of Bubba Lara and Jonathan Holiday held on to retain the win.

The Rangers offense was led by Joshua Boykin with two RBI through a single and double, and Ethan Wrenn had three RBI and a single. Isaiah Campos and Joe Vanni each had hits.

Pitchers for the Rangers included Trevor Large, and Joe Vanni and Frietas.

Mets 9, Marlins 1

Ethan Cline recorded a two-RBI single to help the Mets defeat the Marlins 9-1. John Martinez had an RBI double and AJ Charve had an RBI Single and another hit. Cesar Juarez recorded an RBI and Richie Rios also had a hit.

The Mets' defense was led by pitcher Justin Hale with seven strikeouts.

Offensively, the Marlins were led by Edward Garcia with an RBI single and hit. Playing in a doubleheader may have tired out the team a bit, as only Bubba Lara and Ryan Rangel were the two other Marlins to collect a hit.

Defensively, the Marlins had a pitching combination of four players - Tommy Cox, Holiday, Garcia, and Isaiha Kittles - for 5 strikeouts.
