A Lasting Gift to Gilroy
Oct 17, 2006

In a joyous and generous gesture, Dale and Ruth Connell have put their money where their mouths - and hearts - are: into music, sweet music. The $1 million endowment to bolster music programs in our public schools is a fine example of community philanthropy and a testament to our own Gilroy Foundation.

It's a wonderful organization that provides a stable, institutional vehicle through which community donors can channel donations to target specific favorite causes and needs.

For the Connells it is music, for another donor it might be a science program or a community arts program or a scholarship designed for those who excel in architecture or someone who is the first in their family to attend college.

The list is endless. That is the beauty of it. If you have a generous heart and want to give back to the community, the Gilroy Foundation is a perfect place to set up a lasting fund that keeps on giving. The total endowment now exceeds $3 million, and because that is a significant amount the Foundation is able to earn preferred returns on the investment.

The Gilroy Foundation has numerous family funds. It's a clear way for community members to proudly stand for a better Gilroy, both now and into the future.

If you're interested in following the Connells' lead, the foundation's Executive Director Donna Pray would certainly love to talk with you.

Besides singing the Connells' praises, we of course encourage such an effort. It speaks volumes about our generous community. To get in touch with the Gilroy Foundation, call 842.3727 or e-mail info@gilroyfoundation.org.

As a gift to Gilroy, setting up a family fund is a wonderful holiday gesture.
