Is City of Gilroy cleaning private streets?
Posted: August 28, 2015

Is Wild Iris Drive off Mantelli Drive a publically maintained street?  If so, how can they restrict people from walking there?

So, who's supposed to be cleaning our streets?
Posted: August 21, 2015

What exactly is the job of the city street sweeper? Is it not to clean the gutters of our city streets? If I am correct in this assumption, I am wondering why the gutters are not clean after the sweeper has gone by, in particular, on Mantelli Drive, all the way up to the Country Estates as well as the side streets off of Mantelli. I heard the sweeper go by this morning, but as I drove away and down on Mantelli it was clear that everything was just as dirty as yesterday, and the week before that, and the month before that. This includes the storm drain grates that are full of debris. There are also huge weeds growing in the cracks on the gutters on Mantelli west of Country Drive. Whose responsibility is it to maintain the cleanliness of this road? This is a huge walking path for many residents of Gilroy and it is a complete eyesore.

What's the timeline on the Hecker Pass project?
Posted: August 14, 2015

I would appreciate an update on the Hecker Pass construction project. I remember an article in the Gilroy Dispatch last year before the three-year project began that gave a timeline of what was planned. Now that we're almost through this summer's portion of the work, I'm curious as to what to expect next. I should have saved that article so I could refer to it, but didn't think about it at the time.

Beware, new Luchessa markings make it dangerous
Posted: July 31, 2015

As a daily walker since retirement I have great concern for the safety of anyone within the walking/bicycle lane on Luchessa Avenue after the recent marking. The way it is currently marked you're forced into the guardrail and/or foliage, which has not been cut in a while, or forced to walk in the traffic lane to get around these obstacles. I normally walk starting between 5:45 a.m. and 6:15 a.m. and I have almost been struck twice, despite being aware of traffic.

Has your neighbor's yard become a junk car lot?
Posted: July 24, 2015

In the last year, my neighbor has moved into his front and side yard on the dirt, six or seven cars that one day maybe restored. I live in a R1 Residential Zone. Every time I go out into my backyard, I am looking at a salvage yard. I think that there might be an ordinance on this one, but I know it would be a very low concern for the ordinance people because they are busy with a lot of stuff. Anyway, I have not given them a call because I think that nothing at all will happen. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you.

What's that awful smell in Gilroy, it's not garlic!

I’ve asked before several times about the putrid compost smell that invades Gilroy’s west side around 8 PM at least along Santa Teresa Blvd., from Longmeadow Drive south back
