Community pulse: A management employee union in Gilroy?
May 16, 2008
THIS WEEK'S WEB POLL:
Should city of Gilroy policies allow management employees to form a bargaining union?
Yes: 3
No: 8
■ Oh sure, what's another union feeding from the public trough!
■ It's my understanding that the management employees already had one, just dormant and unorganized. Can they really prevent them? I think the Council just needs to be stronger in their dealing with any union or organized group when it comes to salaries and benefits. So should they have a policy allowing, if it's not already there? - NO if it is already there do a better job of negotiating and don't let this group back them into a corner like police and fire.
■ NO! The City of Gilroy does not need another union to negotiate with!
■ No. ... management is separate from unions because of the sensitive information they have access to and the fact that they supervise union workers.
■ No. Managers should be evaluated and compensated based on performance.
■ Sure! Why not? But why stop there? Why not unionize all city employees, the various commissions and even the City Council? While they're at it they can rename "Vallejroy!"
