OPINION > LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

A happy tradition for Rod Kelley students, neighbors
May 17, 2004

DEAR EDITOR:

The students and teachers at Rod Kelley Elementary School would like to acknowledge and thank Mr. Keith Francis of Kawahara Nursery for his generous donation of more than 600 flowering plants for our annual May Day celebration.

With the help of Todd Perkins and Jason Jandrew of Goldsmith Seeds, who arranged for this donation, 27 classes of students participated in delivering the plants along with May Day wishes to our surrounding neighborhood on Friday, April 30.

Deliveries were met with pleasure and often surprise that someone would still take the time to offer kinds wishes to celebrate the return of spring.

Our children are exposed to so much sadness in the world, perhaps the greatest lesson we can teach them is to work toward peace through their own acts of kindness.

This event each year blesses both those who receive as well as those who give.

Thanks to these gentleman for their help as well as Ms. Tammy Vickroy, who brought this tradition to our school several years ago. It is a pleasure for all of us at Rod Kelley to carry on this tradition.

Michele Rundle, Teacher, Rod Kelley School
