The male bicyclist who was hit by a truck north of First Street Monday night is in stable condition, but might have been at fault in the accident, police said.
The bicyclist and a Chevrolet Tahoe collided about 7:20 p.m. near the entrance to Taco Bell, on Kern Avenue north of First Street, Sgt. Jim Gillio said.
"At this point - it's very early in the investigation - it appears that the bicyclist may have been at fault," Gillio said.
The man sustained major injuries, including cuts and bruises, and was transported by ground to Saint Louise Regional Hospital, Gillio said. The man was still conscious at the scene and is now in stable condition, Gillio said.
The driver and passenger in the Tahoe stayed at the scene and "were fully cooperative with police," Gillio said. Police did not make any arrests and kept the streets closed until midnight.
Gillio expected the investigation to be finished within two weeks.
