Left turn near Red Barn closed
Jul 1, 2009
 By Katie Helland

The southbound Highway 101 left turn lane near San Juan Road and the Red Barn closed permanently Tuesday.

Motorists can no longer turn left or make a U-turn between San Juan Road and San Miguel Canyon Road. Caltrans made the change to reduce the number of traffic collisions in the area.

Caltrans is re-striping this section of U.S. 101 and plans to add a raised curb and traffic signs prohibiting U-turns. Southbound motorists going to the Red Barn can now turn around at the U.S. 101-Highway 156 interchange.

For traffic updates on other state highways in Monterey County, call Caltrans at (805) 549-3318 or visit www.dot.ca.gov/dist05/maint/road/upmon.htm.
