People came from across the country to San Martin in hopes of claiming the heaviest pumpkin.
Joel Holland, from Puyallup, Wash., brought a gourd weighing 1,462 pounds and took top honors at the Uesugi Farms Annual Pumpkin Weigh-In Saturday. Jim Sherwood, of Mulino, Ore., placed second with a 1,367 pound pumpkin; Leonardo Urena, of Napa, came in third with a whopping 1,254 pound vegetable; and although he didn't place, Sherman Wallace put Gilroy on the map with a 244-pound pumpkin.
