ENGAGEMENTS

Sammut/Douglas

Mrs. Leslie Lindsey Eclarin of Hollister and George Sammut of Gilroy joyfully announce the engagement of their daughter, Nicole Danielle Sammut, to Robert Bruce Douglas, son of Don and Rani Douglas of Paicines.

Nicole is a 2001 graduate of Notre Dame High School in Salinas and an alumni of CSU Monterey Bay, where she received her bachelor's degree in business administration. She is currently working as the teller manager for Wachovia Bank in Hollister.

Robert is a 2001 graduate of San Benito High School, attended Merced Junior College and is a graduate of the Institute of Business Technology working for Kencon Electric as an electrician. He is also a part time financial and insurance advisor with North Coast Life.

Their families are thrilled beyond measure with the upcoming nuptials.

HONORS

Max Thompson

Private First Class Max Thompson has graduated from Basic Combat Training at Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo.

During the nine weeks of training, PFC Thompson studied the Army mission and received instruction and training exercises in drill and ceremonies, Army history, core values and traditions, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, rifle marksmanship, weapons use, map reading and land navigation, foot marches, armed and unarmed combat, field maneuvers, and tactics. He distinguished himself by qualifying as an expert marksman with the M-16 rifle and grenade.

PFC Thompson is the son of Aaron and Lyn Thompson of Morgan Hill and Renee Christner of Roseburg, Ore. He is a 2009 graduate of Ann Sobrato High School and will attend Advanced Individual Training at Ft. Sam Houston, Texas.

Daniel Neal

Daniel B. Neal has entered Basic Cadet Training at the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colo., in preparation to enter the first academic year at the academy. The six-week, two-phased orientation program must be successfully completed by the cadets prior to entering their freshman year.

Phase one involves personal in-processing, orientation and training in the fundamentals of being a cadet. Cadet trainees are prepared to adjust from civilian to military life and disciplines, and learn proper wear of the uniform, saluting policies and procedures, drill and ceremony, marching and living quarters standards.

During phase two, cadets live outdoors in tents while learning to function in field conditions.

He is the son of Daniel and Barbara Neal of Morgan Hill, and a 2009 graduate of Live Oak High School.

Tara Harris

Tara J. Harris has entered Basic Cadet Training at the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colo., in preparation to enter the first academic year at the academy. The six-week, two-phased orientation program must be successfully completed by the cadets prior to entering their freshman year.

During phase two, cadets live outdoors in tents while learning to function in field conditions. They complete the obstacle, confidence, assault and leadership reaction courses, and participate in a rescue mission termed Operation Warrior.

Harris is the daughter of Kenneth Harris and Valerie Holdt of Gilroy, and is a 2009 graduate of Notre Dame High School.

Anyssa Victoria Vasquez

Anyssa Victoria Vasquez was born Aug. 14, 2009 at Saint Louise Regional Hospital to Stephanie Pi'a and George Vasquez Jr. of Gilroy. She weighed 8 pounds, 14 ounces.

Ecko Yvonne Mendoza

Ecko Yvonne Mendoza was born Aug. 14, 2009 at Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital to Naomi and Thomas Mendoza of Hollister. She weighed 7 pounds, 6 ounces.

Naomi Lilliana Banales

Naomi Lilliana Banales was born Aug. 10, 2009 at Santa Teresa Kaiser, San Jose to Cynthia and Noe Banales of Gilroy. She weighed 7 pounds, 7.5 ounces.
