Gary and Linda Cooper of San Martin are pleased to announce the engagement of their son Matthew to Valerie DeSoto.
Valerie is the daughter of John DeSoto and Elisa DeSoto, both of Morgan Hill. Matt and Valerie have been local residents all their lives and graduated from Live Oak High School in 1998.
The wedding will be held Sept. 27, 2008 at the United Methodist Church in Morgan Hill.

Anjelica Emilia Narvaez
Anjelica Emilia Narvaez was born Aug. 11, 2008 at Saint Louise Regional Hospital to Claudia and Adrian Narvaez of Hollister. She weighed 10 pounds, 4 ounces.
HONORS
Janet Lee
Janet Lee of Morgan Hill has been awarded a 2008/09 California Grocers Association Educational Foundation's PW Supermarket Scholarship in the amount of $2,000.
Janet will attend UC Berkeley in the fall and major in integrative biology. She was the field hockey team captain, on the track and field and soccer teams, and was named student athlete of the year.
Locals inducted into National Honor Roll
The following middle and high school students have qualified for induction into the 2007/08 National Honor Roll: Geam Alvarzez and Mariana Rodriguez from Live Oak High School, Wendy Detmers from Ann Sobrato High School, Paige Staudenmaier from Valley Christian High School, all of Morgan Hill; Amanda Amstutz, Katherine Kwong and Renzo Segovia from Monte Vista Christian, Jessica De La Rosa, Maria Rojas and Rebecca Veloz from El Portal Leadership Academy, all of Gilroy; and Kristina Tuminaro from Monte Vista Christian, of San Martin.

Elyse Marjorie Wallash
Elyse Marjorie Wallash was named to the Dean's Honors List at the University of California, Davis for the spring 2008 quarter.
Elyse, daughter of JoAnn and Albert Wallash of Morgan Hill, is a junior majoring in psychology.
Kelley Kramer
Army Pvt. Kelley M. Kramer has graduated from the Infantryman One Station Unit Training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga. The training consists of Basic Infantry Training and Advanced Individual Training.
During the nine weeks of basic combat training, the soldier received training in drill and ceremonies, weapons employment, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid skills, and Army history, core values and traditions.
The Advanced Individual Training course is designed to train infantry soldiers to perform reconnaissance operations; employ, fire and recover anti-personnel and anti-tank mines; and more.
Kramer is the son of Ken Kramer of Hollister and Kathleen Westphal of San Ramon. She is a 2004 graduate of San Benito High School.

The Holladays celebrate 50 years
Ken and Jacqui Holladay, long-time Gilroy residents, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Sept. 6. The couple's family, including their four grandchildren, wish them well.
