Airman First Class Jennifer Howard graduated July 2, 2008 from Presidio of Monterey's Language Institute.
HONORS

Jennifer Howard

Airman First Class Jennifer Howard, daughter of Lt. Col. Kim Weber (USAF Retired) and his wife Laurie Weber of Gilroy, and Mr. and Mrs. Russ Howard of Sunnyvale, graduated July 2, 2008 from Presidio of Monterey's Language Institute. After more technical school in Texas and Washington State, she will be stationed at Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska.

Local students earn recognition

Central Coast College held student success rallies on June 26 for day and afternoon students, and July 7 for evening students. Achievements from the previous winter quarter were recognized with certificates for Honor Roll, Perfect Attendance, Positive Mental Attitude, Most Improved and Outstanding Effort. Local students who received awards were Leticia Perez, Gilroy; and Brenda Lopez, Jessie Ornelas, Melissa Torres, Monique Vasquez and Yolanda Cunningham, Hollister; and Yvonne Tavera, San Juan Bautista.

Hernan Barragan

Army Reserve Pvt. Hernan Barragan has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches and field training exercises.

He is the son of Martha Velazquez of Hollister and a 2004 graduate of San Andreas High School.

Gregg Murdock

Gregg Murdock of Gilroy was honored with the William Libery '05 Memorial Prize for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Questioning (TLGBQ) activism and scholarship at Wells College in New York. It is awarded annually to a current student in good academic standing who has demonstrated a commitment to transgender and queer issues. This is the prize's inaugural year.

Rachel Murdock

Rachel Murdock of Gilroy has been named to the Dean's List for spring 2008 at Wells College in New York. To be eligible for Dean's List, a student must carry a semester GPA of 3.5 or better and take a minimum of 12 letter-graded hours (four courses).

Christopher Aiden Hatch was born June 22, 2008 at Santa Teresa Kaiser to Christopher Hatch and Evelyn Castillo of Gilroy. He weighed 8 pounds, 11 ounces.

Jackson James Brinkman

Jackson James Brinkman was born June 27, 2008 at Los Robles Regional Hospital to Ben and Allyson Whitfield Brinkman of Oak Park. He weighed 8 pounds, 10 ounces.

Alejandro Valerio Orozco

Alejandro Valerio Orozco was born July 6, 2008 at Saint Louise Regional Hospital to Jose Luis Orozco and Rosa Valerio of Gilroy. He weighed 7 pounds, 8 ounces.

Sienna Marie Alvarez

Sienna Marie Alvarez was born July 9, 2008 at Hazel Hawkins Hospital to Luis Alvarez III and Bianca Magdaleno of Hollister. She weighed 8 pounds, 6 ounces.
