Sink your teeth into the Twilight series
Jul 17, 2008
 By Library column

Nichole King - Special to South Valley Newspapers

Not since "Harry Potter" by J.K. Rowling has a series taken teen readers by storm. That series is the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer, which comes to end on Aug. 2 with the release of the fourth book, "Breaking Dawn."

If the sales of the third book in the series, "Eclipse," which were 150,000 copies in the first day and an original printing of 1 million copies, are any indication, this final book will be even more popular.

The gist of the series is the relationship between Edward, an incredibly beautiful yet cold vampire, and Bella, a normal average teenage girl who has no idea what she has gotten herself into. Throw in a pack of werewolves, a group of old school vampires called the Volturi, and some very hungry not-so-nice vampires and you get what teens have been clamoring for since book one came out in 2005.

These books cannot be kept on the library shelves. Twilight hasn't been seen in almost three years, and the holds on the latest book have topped 200. What is making the series better known is the publicity surrounding the movie that will be coming out on Dec. 12.

This series knows no age limits and is mostly popular with girls, although boys ask for it as well. If a copy of Twilight finds its way into your hands, hold on tight and get ready to be sucked in.

The Morgan Hill Library will be celebrating the release of "Breaking Dawn" with a book release party Aug. 2, at 3 p.m. in the program room. There will be copies of the book to check out, as well as a few given away. Refreshments will be provided, including pizza. Prizes will be awarded for trivia and Twilight bingo, and the movie trailer will be shown on the big screen. Advanced registration is required. Call (408) 779-3196 ex 3713 to reserve your spot.
