The library is a cool place to be this summer
Jul 3, 2008
 By Library column

Now that the hot season is here, you probably don't need to be reminded that the air-conditioned library is a good place to chill out. But are you aware that your library has a lot more cool things to offer than chilled air? The Morgan Hill Library is in a new building with plenty of seating and a great view of El Toro. We provide free Internet access on our computers or via Wi-Fi.

We've got games. You can check out games for Playstation, wii and Xbox. We also have CD Rom and DVD Rom games for your PC or Mac. For those who prefer to play unplugged - you'll find books on a variety of card and board games.

We offer a huge variety of DVD and VHS movies for free checkout. Feature films, classic movies, international cinema, TV show season collections, nature programs and the best documentaries are all here for the sharing. And did I mention we have a great music CD collection?

We have free programs for kids, teens and adults (details at santaclaracountylib.org/morganhill.).

For the kids we have storytimes on Wednesday evenings, as well as Thursday and Saturday mornings. Kids can take part in our Summer Reading Program and attend great shows every Wednesday at 3 p.m.

Teens can take part in a Guitar Hero Tournament - the next one is July 19. Join the Manga Discussion Group or attend a cool craft session - like scrapbooking or T-shirt makeovers. There is also a Summer Reading Program for Teens.

For adults, there are a number of author visits planned, like Art Rodriguez on July 24. We have a Summer Reading Program and the monthly book discussion group on the fourth Thursday of the month. Stop by our Tuesday evening Knit-In and work to finish that knitting project you set aside or learn to play bridge in our series of classes.

Of course you know that the library has books and resources on sports, travel, hobbies, cooking, collectibles, self improvement, beach reads and every subject you can imagine. Reading can be fun when you have so many books to choose from. It's always fun to search through the Friends of the Library Bookstore for that bargain book or to volunteer at the library and make new friends.

We keep current on technology and offer downloadable books and movies through our Web site's catalog. We have cool gizmos like the popular Playaways - an audio book loaded onto a player - just plug in you earphones and hit play. We also have books on CD and cassette.
