Students of Laurie Avery's Piano Studio performed for family and friends in their summer recital on June 7. Works by composers like Gillock, Diabelli, Czerny, Gurlitt, J.S. Bach, Clementi and Beethoven were performed.
Melinda Tanner
Melinda Tanner of Morgan Hill has graduated from Boston College with a bachelor's degree in biochemistry. More than 3,300 undergraduate and graduate students received degrees at the university's 132nd commencement exercises held May 19. The Rev. William P. Leahy, SJ, 25th president of Boston College, presented the degrees.
Dustin Vertin
Dustin Vertin has made the Dean's List for the fall semester at the University of Dubuque in Iowa.
He is the son of Gregory and Leslie Vertin of Morgan Hill and attended Live Oak High School.

Paul Travis Corrales
Paul Travis Corrales, of Hollister, was promoted to U.S. Army sergeant while on his second term in Iraq.
The sergeant operates in an environment where the sparks fly. Like the next grade, the staff sergeant is responsible for the individual training, personal appearance and cleanliness of his soldiers. The sergeant is equal to that of any other grade or rank of the N.C.O.
Paul is the son of Julie and Tony Travis of Hollister.
Robert Barcelos
Carmelite Brother, Robert Barcelos, OCD was ordained to the Priesthood of Jesus Christ on June 13, through the invocation of the Holy Spirit and the laying on of hands by His Excellency Jean Sleiman, Archbishop of Baghdad, Iraq. The Ordination took place within the Eucharistic Liturgy at Five Wounds National Portuguese Church in San Jose. On Saturday, Fr. Robert celebrated his First "Mass of Thanksgiving" at Five Wounds Catholic Church in San Jose.
Fr. Robert was born in 1978 in Gilroy and is the son of Filomena and Carlos Barcelos. He graduated from Gilroy High School in 1996 and attended Gavilan College and Fresno City College. He earned a bachelor's degree in philosophy and master's in theology at Mount Angel Seminary, Ore. Fr. Robert has been assigned to Parish ministry in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.
